World Changes
A New World
Return to Morroc provides a familiar world with entirely new rules. In this page, you can understand the major behavior changes, along with layout differences.
World Map Layout Changes
The World map has been fully reworked. Previously accessible areas are no longer included, while many areas have been greatly expanded.
Changes Compared to Vanilla RO (Overall, includes information from both pre-renewal and renewal):
- New World has been completely removed, including most of its locations.
- Louyang, Brasilis, and Gonryun and their dungeons have been completely removed. Moscovia Dungeon has also been removed.
- Dicastes (Diel only) and Mora have been reworked into brand-new locations in New-Midgard.
- Splendide Forest is now an area that bridges Geffen Fields West and Comodo Forest.
- Lutie Field has been removed and replaced by Snow Fields, which comprise a larger region and provide access to Dicastes Diel (Sage's Palace).
- Grey Forest Area is available, now including the added Nomad Village.
- Morroc Desert Maps are in their pre-destruction version.
- All fields from pre-renewal that were removed in renewal (like West Orc Village) are restored.
- Some fields have expanded to include once-inaccessible areas, sometimes with new secrets or dungeons.
- Verus can be accessed through either Juperos East Ruins (Inside Juperos Dungeon) or an elevator in the Yuno East Peninsula (Expanded area, previously unavailable).
Dungeon Changes
Besides the introduction of lore-friendly new dungeons like Kafra Warehouse, Alchemist Fortress, or Lost Island, many other places have undergone major changes.
- It's important to note that every single monster has been fully reworked combat-wise, with most receiving visual updates and some even having entirely new sounds.
- Some dungeons have reworked themes, such as Kiel Dungeon becoming an abandoned factory with rusty robots, or Ant Hell transforming into the Society Nest, complete with city ruins.
- Most dungeons have received visual updates; for instance, Forest Maze is now a darker forest overall.
- Dungeons with issues have had walkways added (most mazes), convenience passages (Payon Dungeon), or entirely reworked floors (Amatsu Dungeon 1F).
- The entrances to many classic dungeons have been relocated, such as Geffen Cave and Geffenia.
- Overly long dungeons have had filler floors removed.
- Thanatos Tower specifically has had all quest, party, and price requirements removed, and now consists of only 6 floors.
- All Access Quests have been completely removed.
- Previous MVPs that required quests to summon (like Thanatos, Ktullanux, etc.) no longer require them and operate on the usual respawn timer.
Travel Changes
The way the world functions for long travels has undergone minor changes for convenience and lore adaptation.
- The Airship is no longer available to Orphans, except for the one in Lighthalzen (which transports players to Varmundt's Mansion).
- Kafra Teleportation can now take players to any city within a region or to another region's capital (Prontera, Yuno, Rachel).
- To reach the Eastern Islands (Amatsu, Ayothaya, Moscovia, and Malaya), players can take a ferry from Alberta.
- Traveling to Dewata requires taking the Daedalus Route; the ship can be found in Comodo Pharos.
- Traveling to the Snow Fields (including Lutie and Dicastes Diel) can be done by taking a boat from Hugel.
- Mora, Niflheim, and Nomad Village can all be accessed on foot.
City Changes
Many cities have undergone major changes compared to their presentation in vanilla RO:
- Lighthalzen is now a bankrupt fallen city, filled with poverty. The guard that once blocked access to the slums and city no longer exists, allowing free passage.
- Veins is enveloped in a dense fog, rumored to house the MVP Beelzebub. Most facilities are now indoors.
- With the collapse of Geffen underground, the tower stairs now lead directly to Geffenia. Access to Geffen Cave is through a cave south of Geffen.
- Orc Village has declined significantly from its former glory.
- Umbala's inhabitants now speak fluent English after extensive study.
- Rachel is now populated by Freya cultists, making it relatively safe on the streets but dangerous elsewhere.
- Classic Payon is accessible as a distortion deep inside the Sunken Temple.
- The Island Monastery represents a distortion of Nameless Island before it succumbed to monster infestation.
Item/Skill Behavior Changes
Due to the focus on world exploration and efficient movement, "cheating" movement options have been adjusted with new quality-of-life changes.
- Fly Wing and Teleport now have significantly increased cooldowns and are not recommended for quick travel.
- Movement speed has been increased, and all players now have default access to Increase Agility Lv1, along with many more movement speed options.
- Some dungeons have disabled teleportation.
- All distortion dungeons have disabled teleportation.
- Consumables are now heavier, and it's not advisable to carry more than a few due to cooldowns and effectiveness. They are no longer required for usual gameplay.
Monster Changes
- All monster levels, behaviors, drops, and details have been reworked.
- Many monsters now feature changed palettes and sprites.
- Several monsters have had new sounds added.
- Most monsters are now aggressive by default.
Shop Changes
- Tool dealers mostly sell the same items.
- A cook shop offering stat foods (+1 to +7) at varied prices is available in some cities. Note that these food buffs do not stack.
- Weapon and armor shops are now region-based. Each region specializes in specific equipment types: Midgard, Schwarzwald, Arunafeltz, Islands, Tribal, and Niflheim.
- All dropped equipment can be sold to NPCs for 250z. Shadow Pieces are sold for 500z.
- Shadow Pieces can be dismantled at the Orphanage for varying amounts of Shadowdecons.
